You can help support Lighthouse for the Blind & Low Vision by renewing or purchasing the “A State of Vision” specialty license plate. This plate benefits organizations serving blind and visually impaired persons and is available for purchase at your local tag office.
Sponsored by Representative Dennis Baxley (R-Ocala), the sale of A State of Vision plates will generate monies for direct support services to blind and visually impaired Floridians statewide through a network of 14 local nonprofit agencies, which comprise the Florida Agencies Serving the Blind (Florida ASB), including Lighthouse for the Blind and Low Vision.
How To Purchase a Specialty License Plate to Support Lighthouse
When you renew your registration at your local tax collector’s office, simply let them know you wish to replace your current license plate with the “A State of Vision” specialty license plate. You can also pay a few additional dollars to replace your license plate before it’s time to renew. Specialty license plates cost a set fee (annually) above the standard Florida license plate, and the fees vary based on the type of license plate. Why Do Specialty License Plates Cost More Than Standard License Plates?
Specialty license plates were designed to raise funds for a particular cause. Each specialty license plate has an annual fee for the use of the special design license plate, as required by Florida Statutes. The use of a specialty license plate is voluntary.
Who Gets the Profits from Specialty License Plates Sales?
You can obtain information about where the money from the annual use fees on specialty license plates goes from a number of sources. The Florida Statutes is the most direct information available, however, the Division of Motor Vehicles also provides a Specialty License Plate Report that specifies this information.
